Havin’ a Ball, Part 2

Vanity was acting bright and alert but we were concerned that the object, having gotten stuck, might compromise the intestinal wall. This can happen because the intestines will squeeze so hard around the object that the blood flow to the area will become compromised. No blood flow causes tissue death and soon the intestines burst and peritonitis, shock and death can quickly ensue. Appointments were cancelled and Vanity was taken directly to surgery. Here is a great illustration of how irritated the intestines had become around the object. Fortunately, the tissue, though bruised, is still alive and will heal OK.
